The Krishna Lila Theme Park
The Krishna Lila Theme Park is a grand and majestic cultural complex that is coming up on Vaikuntha Hill, a 28-acre hillock on Kanakapura Road, Bengaluru. The project with an estimated cost of Rs. 700 crores is conceived by the devotees of ISKCON Bangalore in order to present, preserve and promote the cultural heritage of India as described in the ancient Indian classics.
The cultural complex is a fusion of modern architecture and traditional kind of temple design. It will have state-of-the-art facilities to present the universal, eternal and the supreme knowledge contained in the Vedic literatures like Ramayana, Mahabharata and Srimad-Bhagavatam in a fascinating way that would appeal to the contemporary society. The theme park is envisaged to become the most prominent cultural and religious tourism destination in Bengaluru.
The cultural complex will also include separate shrines for Their Lordships Jagannatha, Srinivasa Govinda and Radha Krishna. The project completed its first phase with the installation of the Deities of Sri Jagannatha, Baladeva and Subhadra along with the Deity of Sri Sudarshana Narasimha in a magnificent temple in January 2013. Since then, Sri Jagannatha Ratha Yatra has been one of the major annual festivals celebrated on the Vaikuntha Hill.
In the second phase of the project, Sri Rajadi Raja Sri Srinivasa Govinda temple will be built. It will look like a small replica of the Lord Venkateshwara temple at Tirupati.
The Deities of Sri Sri Radha Krishnachandra which were installed in the month of August 2012 have now been placed in a temporary temple. They will be worshipped here until They are shifted later to a majestic temple to be built on this hill.
There will be Srila Prabhupada Shrine, a memorial to honor the contributions of His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada (Founder-Acharya of ISKCON) to the modern society. This will present his life and works through dioramas in elaborate thematic settings to tell the most moving story of human sacrifice and compassion. The principle of yukta vairagya – engaging everything suitably in the service of the Supreme Lord Krishna for the uplift of humanity – as taught by Srila Prabhupada underlies the Krishna Lila Theme Park project.
Today, our children’s minds are obsessed with fictional heroes like Superman and Spiderman and legends coming from the West. Hence the project aims to impress upon the younger generation the glorious pastimes of our Vedic heroes like Krishna, Rama and Hanuman and instill in their minds the deep values they represent.
There will be a viewing gallery at the top of the structure, at 500 feet level, which can be reached by capsule elevators. The climb to the temple-top by stairway within the main tower provides a wonderful presentation of Vedic cosmology through dioramas and dolls with special lighting and sound effects.
Other attractions of this theme park include a thrilling boat ride, experience of Vaikuntha world through the technology of 4D theatre, motion simulation and advanced computer graphics, a 1500-seat amphitheater, an exciting water slide, Gita Expo and a Science and Spirituality Pavilion. The Kids Zone will be filled with a host of activities like thematic games, traditional puppet workshop, storytelling sessions, costume shows, animation theatres, etc. The complex will also contain several classrooms, audio-visual halls, Vedic library, staff rooms, administrative offices and related facilities for the dissemination of Vedic wisdom.
There are many city buses available from K. R. Market (also called City Market) and Banashankari to reach Vaikuntha Hill. You have to alight at the stop next to Doddakallasandra stop and it takes about 10-15 minutes to reach the temple by walk.
